City Updates - we're baaaack!

That's right chaps, we're back! Yes, we did not forget about this blog. But we did have a lack of ideas...

... untill we just decided to stop cocking around and reassemble Legotown!

Yes, it's back! And better than ever!

Unfortunately, the city is... erm... quite small. But it does pack some neat details and features never before seen in the city from May of 2020.

So... for starters, remember how we just had blank space in between the 3 road plates?

Now, that gap was replaced by a park, where citizens can eat, play and enjoy life!

The park has many features taken from my very old 2018 layout. Most notably, it includes...

... the long-awaited Hurricane Tibi memorial!
If you aren't familiar with Hurricane Tibi and the things that preceded it... well... here's a backstory.

Around 2017, one of my cousins' kid visited my house as usual. Little did I know what trouble that would bring.
He was very clumsy, stupid and childish. He loved taking my stuff and destroying them. So, as punishment, I hid his phone somewhere. And he retaliated by destroying my entire city.

But, instead of repairing it, I decided to have some good-ol' fashioned disaster scenario to see what kind of recovery forces the Legotown Emergency units can muster up. And ever since then, a plinth & a flower stand was made in the City Center to memorialise "all the poor LEGO lives who were lost during that very very bad incident."

This was the original monolith. In 2019, the plinth was shortened and a blue stripe was added.

And that's the last version of the Hurricane Tibi memorial before the city - and subsequently, my entire LEGO collection - moved to the living room. Much more space to use, and was no longer a major stepping hazard!

One of the most striking differences was that the entire plinth was rebuilt.
The plaque now measures 5 studs by 6, has a brown stripe, and a plate which reads "Hurricane Tibi - Memorial, 2018". It is held up by 2 large feet-like supports.

The plinth is accompanied by the original flower stand and 2 candles. Soon, a church will be built on the plot adjacent to the area, and the memorial will be incorporated in the campus.

But now, on a happier note... let's cross the street and see what changes have been made there.

As you can see, the row of buildings has been expanded, and a small cafe now serves the city.

The road also has a bus stop and a burger stand (which is in direct competition to the other fast food shop from the corner!) where hungry parkgoers can have a meal. The bus is the only one running in the city currently, maybe one day I might have to make another one...

Remember the sweets shop that used to be here? It's no more. It's been replaced by this flat which serves as the transition from suburbs to the taller buildings. It used to be the tallest building in town - but it got replaced by the high-rise apartment building.

Here is the view from the top floor. Quite impressive, isn't it? The rent is impressive too; it's the most expensive building to live in, not affordable for the average Joe!

I love taking pictures from a LEGO minifigure's view. It makes the experience that much more immersive!

Now, back to the update. As you can see, a toy store has opened next to the fast food place. Yet another good LEGO Creator set. You can also spot one of the police cars patrolling the city.

And, across the street, right in front of the lego store (which is going bankrupt, because "go woke go broke")... a crime is being commited. Someone has fallen to one of Legotown's criminals. Also, for the record, (so that Arlo doesn't cancel me!) the person being held hostage is not black, it's a werewolf heading to a cosplay party. Fortunately the Tesla parked nearby has already filmed the robbery using Sentry Mode and the cops have been alerted!

And finally, at the town entrance, the police have been made aware of the robbery and they are subjecting all inbound and outbound traffic to checks and controls. I love how immersive this shot looks.

I love this shot too. The entrance to the city is marked by the speed limit sign.

And that's all for today, folks! See you in the next post, where we take a look at Legotown's bus system!

My Own Train 10016 Tanker Wagon Review!

 Welcome back!

Since we have quite a lot of catching up to do, let's continue the small review series by showing you my second Bricklink purchase.

None other than the 10016 Tanker Wagon, from the My Own Train theme!

Again, we bought it sealed. Because why not?

  • Theme: Trains/9v
  • Subtheme: My Own Train
  • Year: 2001
  • Part Count: 128
  • Weight: 356g
  • Price: 19.99$
This wagon is also one of the "legends" of the LEGO Train world, along with the Hopper Wagon, BNSF locomotive, TTX stack cars, Metroliner etc. They are all legends!

Anyway, let us.... begin.

This wagon is not as detailed as the Hopper Wagon, but it certainly doesn't dissapoint either.
(you can also notice the nice backdrop I made for it. A classic move!)

I do consider this tanker to be the best tanker LEGO ever made, the only one on bogies too!

Quite a nice wagon. And yes, since it's from the 9v era, it has the old magnets. You already know our opinion on this.

On each side of the wagon, we have valve controls. A very nice touch. There is also the obligatory black railing (so minifigs can't fall off and get crushed by the train).

Here's my favourite part of the tanker wagon: the printed tiles! We have a console and a grille along with a very very sweet Octan logo, which has scratch marks on it to represent wear and tear. Very based!

A very nice tanker from the old times. It would be nice to get a few of these babies (like trainguy91 did, he has 3 of these!) and make a tanker train.

Again, imagine if LEGO re-released this set. It would be a blessing to us railfans. Motorheads got Speed Champions, so why can't we get something similar.

Maybe in the future. But, untill then, just like the back of the box says... "just imagine".

Anyway, if you liked the text review... you'll love the video review.

My Own Train 10017 Hopper Wagon Review!

Since we're back... it's time to show you what we did over the last... erm... YEAR?? YEAR AND A HALF??

Doesn't matter though (as I think most of you have seen on our YouTube channel). But for those unaware of all the fun and stuff that's been happening over there... well, we've made some changes... and we finally did the leap and bought stuff using Bricklink. Hell yeah.

So, here's the review on the super based, very nice (and expensive!) 10017 Hopper Wagon, straight out of 2001!

Also did I mention we bought it sealed??

  • Theme: Trains/9v
  • Subtheme: My Own Train
  • Year: 2001
  • Part Count: 228
  • Weight: 338g
  • Price: 19.99$
So, first remarks... this was 20$ back in the day! 20! And you actually got something decent! They don't make them like they used to, that's for sure...

This wagon is one of the best wagons LEGO ever made (in my opinion). Not only is it large and fairly detailed, but lacks the eye-hurting livery LEGO does nowadays.

The wagon has 2 chutes on either side, along with ladders and some tehnic levers (you'll see what they do later!).

The wagon (as all the others from the 9v lineup) has the old style magnets. These magnets are actually just the little pill part, it is held in place by a technic coupling lever. A very smart idea by LEGO; not only these magnets can be used in other creations, but the buffer can come apart so it can be used without a magnet.

Unfortunately, they were discontinued around 2007 due to a EU regulation (which me and my friends call "Pussy Law #4") which stated that "Hrbrbrbrbr magnet bad!! Cause kid choke and die!!".

Anyhoo, moving on.

On the sides, you can find ladders, a handrail and a shovel and a broom, one on each side.
They all have the old colors.

And now, the most important part of all, the play feature.

Open the brackets, and you can dump your load next to the tracks! And you don't just get 2 or 3 1x1 round bricks, you get 11!

I just want to point out how this set, along with the other ones from the My Own Train series, shaped the LEGO Train world as we know it. People could have actually bought these in bulk and made their own train.

Nowadays, we get 2 crappy train sets every 4 years. And we don't know if LEGO is still planning to do one for 2022...

Anyway, thanks for reading this biased- wait what? Yeah, biased. A bunch of people think we're biased towards the older LEGO, and yes we are. Anyway, thanks for reading this biased...review.

And, to end it all, here's the video. Enjoy!

We have returned!

Moving Day

Hello again!
Today we will explore some of the utilities Lego Town has, but in typical fashion, i can't just shove all of them in front of the camera and take a picture. I thought a story of how moving is done in Lego Town would be fitting.

Meet Stand.

He is one of our older residents. He came with the 3177 Small Car set. I bought it for a low price (because the box was not sealed properly) but all pieces were brand new.

One of my old friends gave him the name Stand, and that's how i called him since because i can't think of another name other than the basic generic english ones.

Now, let's get to the reason you clicked on this post.

This is Stand's old home. It's a typical suburban apartment, more Europeanish style. It was nice, but it didn't have space for Stand's stuff.

Since Stand works at a big tech company in the city centre, he managed to
save up to buy a new home.

This is his new home. It's located on the outskirts of Lego Town. Thank god he has a car (albeit small!)

The shipping truck arrived at Stand's home with boxes where his stuff will be put in. It still has the old bank logo because it has been bought from a now bankrupt bank, but our workers have not went around to change the stickers.

You can see the boss, he has a different outfit. Of course, we don't follow OSHA guidelines in our city because it's made of plastic. (That explains why 2 are wearing bicycle helmets, one wears a cap and the boss wears a hardhat)

Stand's house has a basement, where he has his bicycle. Not sure how they will transport that!

The workers are hard at work transporting the stuff....but the blue cap guy
should be given a punishment, he broke some glassware!

Everyone is in a rush out of the door. Stand can be seen packing up his stuff.

Soon, the truck was on it's way.... and left the stuff at Stand's new house, and so now he lives in a modern home.
